Setbacks

Hello again.

If you’re reading this, you might have noticed that I’ve been largely absent from the internet for the past year or so. Things have been hectic on my end, and I think y’all are overdue for an update.

Just before Christmas last year, I lost my job. I didn’t tell anyone in my family until after the new year started because I didn’t want to bring down the mood.

Management never did like me. I asked too many questions.

Some time in April, my cheap desk chair broke. I had the brilliant idea to build myself a new one, since my family has a lot of scrap wood and power tools at their disposal. One thing led to another, and I lost the tip of one of my fingers to an old rusty tablesaw. Drawing and typing have been a bit more difficult since then.

My hand is cramping up right now, actually.

A few months later, my old car finally kicked the bucket (broken alternator) and I had to sell it for scrap. It was my first ever car that my mother and father bought for me when I was sixteen, so there was a lot of sentimental value in that 2002 Lincoln LS. She lasted a helluva lot longer than she should have, given how little I’d invested in taking care of her.

I’ll miss you, darlin’.

The college I applied to has disabled my account so I cannot complete orientation. They left me a message to inform me that they are discontinuing the degree program that I had signed up for in the first place.

At least they finally responded to one of my half-dozen messages.

To summarize: I lost my job, my car, my hopes for returning to school, and an important piece of my dominant hand, all in the last ten months.

I’ve been going through it.

I am sad.

I am tired.

I am angry.

I am still trying though. That’s what truly matters in the end.
